Syrian Rue

Tolerance

A (reversible) MAO inhibitor: the issue is not tolerance but interactions. Risk of hypertensive crisis and serotonin syndrome with tyramine, SSRIs and other serotonergics. Respect washout times.

Contraindicated combinations

It is an MAOI: many serious interactions. Contraindicated with SSRIs/SNRIs, other MAOIs, tramadol, DXM, stimulants (amphetamines, MDMA, cocaine) and tyramine-rich foods (aged cheeses, cured meats): serotonin syndrome or hypertensive crisis. Check every medication beforehand.
