Diphenhydramine
In brief
An antihistamine that turns deliriant at high doses (anticholinergic), with realistic hallucinations, confusion and dysphoria. A seldom-sought, risky experience (cardiotoxic in overdose).
Tolerance
Tolerance is beside the point: the experience is dysphoric and the overdose risk is cardiotoxic. An anticholinergic, not to be repeated.
Contraindicated combinations
Do not combine with other anticholinergics (other antihistamines, some antidepressants, Datura): additive toxicity. Avoid depressants and stimulants. Cardiotoxic in overdose.
Major risks, not exhaustive; when in doubt, check a harm-reduction resource.
Duration
Indicative orders of magnitude; they vary with dose, route and individual.
