Nitrous Oxide
In brief
A very short-acting dissociative gas (NMDA antagonist), euphoria and sound distortion for a few minutes. Hypoxia risk, and vitamin B12 depletion with repeated use (neuropathy).
Tolerance
Very brief acute tolerance within a session. The real risk of repeated use is vitamin B12 depletion (neuropathy, spinal cord damage), independent of tolerance.
Contraindicated combinations
Do not combine with alcohol or other depressants (benzodiazepines, opioids): hypoxia, loss of consciousness, falls. Always sit down. Repeated use depletes vitamin B12 (supplement it).
Major risks, not exhaustive; when in doubt, check a harm-reduction resource.
Duration
Indicative orders of magnitude; they vary with dose, route and individual.
